IT Manager – China Office
ENF is a solar power web portal based with staff based in Wuhu in China’s Anhui Province. We are searching for an IT manager to lead a team of (English-speaking) Chinese programmers to develop our website. Chinese language ability is not a necessity.
Job Responsibilities
The IT manger should be leading a team of talented developers who are responsible for the main IT infrastructure and internal systems within the company. More challenging projects include a complete recoding of our company directory system with many new advanced features, evolution of our jobsite system and advanced tools to support our trade team.
• Framework and technology mapping
• Project management
• Direct coding
• QC of coding of programmers reporting to IT manager
• Training of programmers reporting to IT manager
• Evaluation of performance of staff
• Assisting in the evaluation of Western/Indian programmers to grow the team
The IT manager will report to the senior IT manager.
Required Skills
• Minimum 3 years’ experience working with PHP in an object oriented manner
• Familiarity with 2 or more PHP frameworks such as Symfony, CakePHP, Zend or Codeigniter
• Knowledge of teamwork tools, such as Subversion and Git
• Ability to design web architectures
• Understanding of template engines such as Smarty
• Experience in project planning in MS Project a plus
We have some existing coders with a couple of years’ PHP development experience – it is important that our IT manager has a clearly superior knowledge and ability over them. Being new to managing a team is fine as long as our coders can look up to you as a valued mentor. Initial team size will be 3-4 headcount reporting to you.

Further Information about pay:
After bonus and tax, pay works out to about £7000 annually. This is well over double the local average salary but is still much lower than a standard western salary. Please ensure you are fully happy with this before applying.

• Wuhu is a small city by Chinese standards (1,000,000 people) and is not a tourist hot spot. This means that unlike Beijing and Shanghai there are very few foreigners around, if you are expecting to hang around solely with Europeans your options may be limited.
• On the positive side the city is well developed and clean. There are some global supermarket chains showing food labels in English, and large department stores which make shopping easy.
• Although there is only one English-language TV channel, the company has a DVD library with over 1000 DVDs for the staff to borrow.
