US Recruiting and University Relations Manager

Full-time at China Education Initiative (CEI) in Beijing


The China Education Initiative (CEI) is excited to announce that we are now recruiting for a new US Recruiting and University Relations Manger. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to implement a comprehensive recruiting and admissions strategy aimed at identifying, cultivating, and inspiring outstanding prospects to apply to and join CEI’s Teaching Fellowship program. In this role, the US Recruiting and University Relations Manager will also be responsible for supporting the interview, selection, assignment, and matriculation process of participants, as well as for cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with US universities and China-based academic programs.
Regular travel, including spending three to six months of the year in the US, is required. This position affords a unique opportunity to take on a leading role in a dynamic NGO start-up that is poised to have a tremendous impact on education reform in China.

Established in 2008, China Education Initiative (CEI) is an innovative non-profit organization taking a unique approach to eliminating educational inequity in China by enlisting the US and China’s most promising future leaders in the effort.

Through the institution of a US-China Teaching Fellows program, CEI meets the pressing need for exceptional teachers in China’s understaffed low-income schools, while fostering a cross-cultural constituency of young leaders positioned to advance the cause of educational equity and effect long-term systemic change.

CEI is the first and only organization to partner young leaders from China and the US in a long-term service initiative. Placed in four-person cross-cultural teams (2 Chinese + 2 Americans) at their host schools, CEI’s Fellows share profound and enduring experiences that will shape the long-term trajectory of Sino-US relations, and ultimately produce shared solutions to as yet unsolved problems.

• The only program in China working in collaboration with Teach For All, a global network of independent social enterprises working to expand educational opportunity first proven through the success of Teach For America;

• Drawing on Princeton in Asia's more than 100 years of experience as a partner institution;
• Funded by an extensive network that includes Goldman Sachs, Ford Foundation, and the Luce Foundation.
• Working in collaboration with the Brunswick Group as a marketing partner.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support development of the US recruitment and selection strategy, helping to set and meet ambitious recruitment and selection goals;
• Develop and maintain a keen understanding of CEI’s mission, vision, program, and the Fellow experience, and communicate these effectively and compellingly to diverse audiences;
• Support a recruitment communications strategy that leads to high visibility for CEI on US campuses and an effective recruitment process;
• Be part of the team that hires, trains, and supports Campus Ambassadors (CAs), ensuring CAs set, define, and meet ambitious yet realistic goals that are aligned to larger organizational objectives;
• Support ongoing quantitative and qualitative analyses related to recruitment and selection;
• Support the design of an efficient, low-cost selection process for CEI Teaching;
• Support execution of the US selection process, including designing and executing training for the selection committee and supporting development and management of strategy for quality control on selection decisions;
• Execute the matriculation strategy, meeting ambitious matriculation goals;
• Manage applicant communications to ensure high levels of applicant satisfaction throughout the admissions process;
• Work with the recruitment and selection team to adapt international best practices (i.e. Teach For All practices) to the CEI context in both the US and China; and
• Collect and share Fellow information with relevant CEI functional areas to ensure a smooth transition for program participants from matriculation to training & ongoing support process.

QALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. institution required;
• Highly motivated, goal-oriented leader who excels in entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and results-oriented environments;
• Exceptional inter-personal and public speaking skills, and the ability to interact with and inspire diverse audiences;
• Strong organizational skills and thorough attention to detail;
• Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment;
• Strong written and oral English communication skills;
• Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (exceptionally strong Excel skills an asset);
• Comfort working with databases and analyzing data;
• Willingness to travel extensively and work on evenings and weekends, as required;
• Experience working in mainland China and demonstrated ability to work cross-culturally preferred; and
• Chinese language skills a strong asset.
