Freelance translator (Chinese to English, Onsite in Shanghai)

Work location: On-site in Shanghai (client premises), China
Start date: May 2023 (exact date to be communicated)
Work schedule: the expert will work on the client’s premises for 1-2 weeks, on demand.
Engagement mode: Freelance basis/Independent contractor
We are looking for a Chinese (Mandarin) into English translator willing to engage in a freelance opportunity and to be part of an innovative project.
Role Responsibilities
1, UI interface text check: to operate the UI installed in the car model, proofread the texts that appeared in the UI interface, and make translation corrections and or polishing suggestions based on automotive industry standards and local customs
2, Text-to-Speech (TTS) check: to interact with an in-car robot by speech, and the robot will react by speech and text. The participant will need to check the speech (including accent, tone, rhythm, grammar, abbreviations, measuring units, symbols, spelling, punctuation, and consistency.) and the text content (grammar, abbreviations, measuring units, symbols, spelling, punctuation, and consistency), and make a correction and or polishing suggestions based on automotive industry standard and local customs
3, Translation evaluation: to evaluate the quality of the original translation documents as provided and provide feedback on the documents
4, Translation memory (TM) updates
Job Requirements
Skills required:
1, Idiomatic fluency in English (US is preferred; however, we consider also UK/Australia/South Africa/Canada/New Zealand)
2, Translation certification – in country accreditation body: ATA or country equivalent
3, 3+ years' experience in translation from Chinese into English (not English into Chinese)
4, A degree in translation, linguistics, or a related field
5, 1+ years' experience in translation/localization review, user testing, LQA, or any related quality assurance role in translation/localization
6, Translation/localization experience in the automotive industry
7, Located in or able to travel to work in Shanghai
8, Have an understanding of how to drive and how e-car works
Skills preferred:
1, Driver's license
2, Have experience in automotive digital interface QA experience (similar working experience with E-Car)
3, Working experience with JIRA
4, Experience in digital interface copywriting or a related field
5, Certification with a local translation accreditation body is a plus
